About this product

Fresh, vibrant and organic — a better kind of everyday Sauvignon.
There is something particularly appealing about a wine that makes no fuss about being good. Yalumba GEN Sauvignon Blanc is exactly that: a bright, lively Australian white built around fresh fruit, natural acidity and an easy-drinking style, with the added reassurance that the grapes come from certified-organic vineyards.

GEN is Yalumba’s expression of a more thoughtful approach to winegrowing. The Sauvignon Blanc is sourced from the Carypidis Family Vineyard in Virginia, South Australia, which has been certified organic since 2011. Careful vineyard work allows the grapes to arrive in excellent condition, giving the wine the freshness and flavour that Sauvignon Blanc needs without relying on a heavy-handed winemaking style.

The result is a cheerful, fruit-driven Sauvignon with tropical notes, fresh herbs and a lively citrus edge. For Sauvignon Blanc drinkers in Ireland, it offers an appealing alternative to the more familiar New Zealand style: still crisp and refreshing, but with a distinctly Australian warmth and generosity behind the freshness.

Why we love it:
A really well-judged everyday Sauvignon Blanc: bright, juicy and refreshing, but with enough texture to make it more interesting than a simple thirst-quencher. The certified-organic provenance is a genuine bonus, giving this approachable bottle a little more substance and a story worth talking about.

    • Sauvignon Blanc

    Colour
Pale lemon with subtle green hues.

    Nose
Passionfruit, pawpaw and fresh green herbs, with a lively citrus character.

    Palate
Fresh tropical fruit meets lemongrass and zesty citrus on a bright, textured palate. Crisp natural acidity keeps the wine energetic through to a clean, refreshing finish.

Fresh, crisp and uncomplicated, GEN Sauvignon Blanc is particularly good with lighter dishes where its acidity can cut through richer ingredients while its tropical fruit character complements herbs, citrus and fresh vegetables.

    • Salt and lemon-pepper squid
    • Grilled prawns and other shellfish
    • Goats' cheese salad
    • Thai green curry
    • Sushi and sashimi

For the best expression in Ireland, serve well chilled at around 8–10°C. There is no need to decant — simply open, pour and let the wine's fresh fruit and herbal character do the work.
