Grand. Architectural. Profoundly expressive.
The Heytesbury Chardonnay from Vasse Felix is the estate’s ultimate expression of Margaret River Chardonnay — a wine of stature, depth, and extraordinary longevity. Named in honour of Heytesbury Road, where the region’s viticultural story first began, this cuvée represents the pinnacle of site selection, precision farming, and meticulous winemaking. It is not simply a premium Chardonnay; it is a statement of intent.
Margaret River’s maritime climate — cooled by Indian Ocean breezes and defined by long, even ripening seasons — allows Chardonnay to achieve ripeness without excess. In Heytesbury, that balance is magnified. Only the finest vineyard parcels are selected. Hand-harvested fruit undergoes wild fermentation in French oak, followed by extended lees ageing to build texture and depth. Every detail is deliberate. Every component serves structure, tension, and age-worthiness.
In the glass, it shines pale gold with crystalline brilliance. The aromatics are layered and captivating: white peach and nectarine give way to preserved lemon, grapefruit pith, struck flint, toasted hazelnut, and subtle pastry notes. There is an unmistakable sense of precision — a wine that reveals itself slowly, demanding attention.
The palate is both powerful and restrained. Concentrated stone fruit and citrus are wrapped in finely integrated oak, supported by vibrant acidity and a distinct saline minerality that reflects its coastal origin. Texture builds through the mid-palate — creamy yet taut — before a long, sculpted finish that seems to echo long after the final sip. This is Chardonnay with gravitas, capable of evolving beautifully over a decade or more.
For serious wine collectors and discerning enthusiasts in Ireland, Heytesbury offers something rare: a world-class white that stands confidently among the great Chardonnays globally while remaining unmistakably Margaret River in character. It is a wine for landmark dinners, cellar collections, and moments where only the finest bottle will do.
Why we love it:
Heytesbury Chardonnay is precision at its peak. Intense yet restrained, layered with citrus, flint, and seamless oak. Built to age, but already breathtaking in its balance and depth.
