Tullamore D.E.W. Cider Cask takes one of Ireland's most recognisable blended whiskeys and gives it an unusually Irish finishing touch. After its traditional maturation, the whiskey spends a further three months in bourbon casks that have previously held cider, allowing the character of the fermented apples to subtly influence the spirit.

The result isn't a flavoured whiskey or something that tastes like a glass of cider. Instead, the cask brings gentle fresh-apple sweetness, soft fruit and a touch of cider-like tartness alongside Tullamore D.E.W.'s familiar malt, oak and vanilla character. Official tasting notes describe fresh green apple, creamy malt, oak and lingering sweetness.

It is also an expression with genuine rarity rather than just another variation of the core range. Cider Cask was produced as a limited release, historically appearing through selected outlets and travel retail, making it a particularly interesting bottle for anyone building a collection of less-common Irish whiskey expressions.
