About this product

Bold. Botanical. Brilliantly French.
Born in France at the end of the 19th century, Suze Gentian Liqueur is a true icon of French aperitif culture. Crafted from wild gentian roots harvested in the mountains, it embodies a bold yet refined character, bridging rustic tradition with timeless sophistication. Its vibrant golden hue and unmistakable bittersweet flavour have made it a beloved companion to generations of artists, bon vivants, and cocktail lovers alike.

Every sip of Suze reveals a delicate dance between earthy gentian bitterness and subtle citrus brightness, creating a refreshing complexity that feels at once familiar and intriguing. Whether served simply over ice, lengthened with tonic, or woven into cocktails, Suze brings with it the charm of French terraces, shared laughter, and the art of slow enjoyment.

In Ireland, Suze finds a special place at the table — perfect for those who love bold flavours and want to elevate their aperitif rituals with a liqueur that has stood the test of time.

Why we love it:
We love Suze for its bold yet balanced flavour, its storied heritage, and the way it brings people together. It’s a liqueur that transforms any gathering into a celebration of taste, tradition, and conviviality.

Country of origin

France

Colour
Golden yellow with amber reflections.

Nose
Aromatic and herbaceous, with bitter gentian root, dried citrus peel, and soft florals.

Palate
Refreshing and complex — orange zest and honeyed spice over a firm backbone of herbal bitterness.

Suze shines both on its own and as a bold cocktail component. Try it over ice with a slice of orange, or in one of France’s simplest and most enduring serves: Suze & tonic.

✨ Featured Cocktail: White Negroni

  • 30 ml Suze
  • 30 ml London dry gin
  • 30 ml Lillet Blanc or dry white vermouth
  • Stir with ice and strain into a rocks glass over a large cube.
  • Garnish with grapefruit peel.

This contemporary classic swaps Campari for Suze, resulting in a lighter, more aromatic version with a bitter citrus twist.

Created in Paris and now produced in the south of France, Suze has remained true to its origins for over 130 years. Its iconic tall bottle and golden hue were made famous by artists like Picasso, and today it continues to inspire both cocktail innovation and aperitif culture. Now owned by Pernod Ricard, Suze still uses wild gentian root gathered from the Massif Central, a process that preserves the authenticity and integrity of this historic French liqueur.
