An Italian Single Malt with Venetian Soul.
Some spirits are born not only from craftsmanship, but from history itself. In 2013, the small town of Schiavon in Veneto celebrated with pride when one of its citizens was appointed Vatican Secretary of State. To mark this moment, the Poli family—famed for over a century of distilling artistry—decided to create something extraordinary. Thus was born Segretario di Stato, a whisky that carries both a tribute to their community and a bold step forward in Italian distilling.
This isn’t just a whisky—it’s a statement of character. Made from malted barley, both torbato (lightly peated) and non-torbato, it is distilled in Poli’s artisanal copper bain-marie stills. The whisky rests for five years in oak, where it slowly gathers depth and warmth, before finishing in prized Amarone casks. The influence of Italy’s great red wine brings a refined elegance, layering richness and complexity on top of the malt’s natural strength. The result is a whisky that is at once traditional and daring, one that feels as much at home in Veneto as it does in a glass poured in Ireland.
Segretario di Stato is not mass-produced—it’s a carefully crafted, limited-edition expression, with each bottle carrying the unmistakable signature of Poli’s devotion to excellence. Rich, generous, and contemplative, it’s a whisky that rewards patience and invites conversation, a dram made for sharing but also for quiet reflection.
For Irish whisky lovers eager to explore something beyond the familiar, Poli’s Segretario di Stato offers a journey into Italy’s soul: elegant, bold, and full of character.
Why we love it:
“Segretario di Stato” is a whisky that speaks with gentle power. The peat and craft of Italian distilling come alive in every sip, nurtured by the velvety influence of Amarone casks. It’s complex yet refined—rich with dried fruit, toasted nuts, and smoked spice. For Irish whisky lovers seeking innovation grounded in craftsmanship, it offers a striking intersection of heritage, boldness, and elegance.
