Golden, malty and made for the Oktoberfest season.
There are beers that signal the arrival of autumn, and then there is Paulaner Oktoberfest Bier. Brewed in Munich specifically for Oktoberfest, it brings a little piece of the Wiesn to the glass: brilliant golden colour, generous malt character, gentle hop bitterness and a satisfying 6.0% ABV. Paulaner has been brewing its Oktoberfest beer for the festival since 1818, making it part of one of Munich’s great beer traditions.
Today’s Oktoberfestbier has evolved from the stronger Märzen beers traditionally associated with the festival into a golden, full-bodied lager designed to be both characterful and highly drinkable. Paulaner’s version combines Pilsner and Munich malts with Herkules and Hallertauer Tradition hops, creating a beer where fresh bread, light biscuit and gently toasted grain lead the way, with delicate floral and herbal hop notes adding freshness.
On the palate, the malt takes centre stage, giving the beer richness and a satisfying body without making it feel heavy. A light, clean bitterness provides balance, while lively carbonation keeps the finish crisp and refreshing. At 6%, there is more warmth and presence than in a standard lager, but the beer remains remarkably easy to drink — exactly what you want from a style designed for long afternoons, big tables and another round.
And that is where Paulaner Oktoberfest Bier really comes into its own. Think warm pretzels, sausages, hearty autumn food and long evenings with friends; the kind of setting where a golden Munich lager feels completely at home. You may not have a Bavarian beer tent in the back garden, but a properly chilled Paulaner gets remarkably close to the feeling.
Why we love it:
There is something wonderfully uncomplicated about a proper Oktoberfest beer: rich malt, gentle bitterness and a smooth finish that makes the glass disappear rather easily. Paulaner brings plenty of Bavarian character without making the beer feel heavy, making it a natural choice when the first signs of autumn call for something golden, malty and a little more festive.
Germany
Weissbier
Appearance
Brilliant golden amber with a clear appearance and a generous, fine white head.
Aroma
Fresh bread, lightly toasted malt and soft biscuit notes lead the way, with subtle floral and herbal hop aromas adding freshness.
Palate
Full-bodied but smooth, with rich Pilsner and Munich malt bringing fresh bread, biscuit and gentle toasted grain flavours. A light, clean hop bitterness provides balance without dominating, leading into a surprisingly crisp and refreshing finish for a 6% lager. Subtle malt sweetness and light herbal hop notes linger pleasantly.
If there is one beer that was practically born to accompany food, it is Oktoberfestbier. The rich malt character works beautifully with salty, savoury dishes, while the gentle bitterness and lively carbonation keep the palate refreshed between bites.
Try it with:
- Bratwurst, weisswurst and other German sausages
- Bavarian pretzels with mustard
- Pork schnitzel and roast pork
- Steak, burgers and grilled meats
- Roast chicken and hearty autumn dishes
- Mature Alpine cheeses
- Salted nuts and traditional beer-hall snacks
It is equally at home as the centrepiece of an Oktoberfest gathering, served alongside plenty of food and good company. Serve at around 6–8°C to keep the beer refreshing while allowing the rich Munich malt and delicate hop character to come through.

Paulaner traces its brewing history back to Munich in 1634, when monks of the Paulaner Order began brewing their own beer. Today, it remains one of Munich's historic breweries and one of the six breweries permitted to serve beer at the official Oktoberfest.
Paulaner's connection with Oktoberfest is particularly long-standing: its Oktoberfest Bier has been brewed for the festival since 1818. The modern beer combines Pilsner and Munich malts with Herkules and Hallertauer Tradition hops, creating the golden, malty and highly drinkable character associated with the brewery's Oktoberfest tradition.
