About this product

Rustic. Refreshing. Portugal's everyday table red.
Not every great wine needs to be reserved for special occasions. In Portugal, some of the most enjoyable bottles are the ones poured without a second thought—shared over lunch, enjoyed with simple home cooking, and always accompanied by good company. Pardalito Tinto captures exactly that spirit. Honest, fresh and wonderfully uncomplicated, it is a classic Portuguese table wine that celebrates everyday drinking at its best.

Produced by Barcos Wines in northern Portugal, Pardalito is inspired by the traditional red wines that have long accompanied local cuisine. While it shares its roots with the famous Vinho Verde reds, this expression sits outside the DOC classification, allowing the winery to focus purely on producing an approachable, fruit-forward wine with outstanding drinkability and exceptional value.

The blend combines three native Portuguese varieties that have shaped the region's red wine identity for generations. Vinhão provides vibrant colour, lively acidity and juicy dark fruit, Espadeiro contributes bright red berry freshness and elegance, while Borraçal adds gentle structure and rustic character. Together, they create a wine that is light in alcohol, bursting with freshness and perfectly suited to relaxed, informal dining.

With a modest 10.5% ABV, Pardalito Tinto remains wonderfully light on its feet. Unlike heavier reds, it is designed to refresh rather than overwhelm, making it equally enjoyable slightly chilled during warmer months or served traditionally alongside hearty Portuguese dishes.

In the glass, the wine displays a deep ruby colour with youthful purple hues. The nose is fresh and vibrant, offering aromas of wild blackberry, sour cherry, raspberry and red plum, accompanied by subtle earthy notes and a touch of violet that reflect its northern Portuguese heritage.

The palate is lively and juicy, driven by crunchy red and black fruit, bright acidity and soft tannins. There is a rustic honesty to the wine that makes it incredibly food-friendly, while the clean, refreshing finish encourages another sip. It is uncomplicated in the very best sense—made to accompany conversation rather than dominate it.

For wine lovers in Ireland looking to explore authentic Portuguese wines beyond the familiar, Pardalito Tinto is a delightful discovery. It offers a glimpse into everyday life in northern Portugal, where wines like this are enjoyed around the family table far more often than expensive Reservas. It may be humble, but it is full of personality.

Why we love it:
Sometimes the best wines are the ones that don't try too hard. Pardalito Tinto is fresh, vibrant and incredibly easy to enjoy, offering an authentic taste of northern Portugal that's rarely seen outside the country. Light in alcohol, packed with juicy fruit and made for food, it's the sort of bottle you'll happily open any night of the week—and probably wonder why more wines aren't made like this.
