In the gentle sun-warmed hills of Fiumana di Predappio, where brown-clay and limestone soils meet the Adriatic breeze, the vines for Battista Chardonnay quietly absorb the essence of Romagna’s southern slopes. At 150 m above sea level and facing the soft undulations of the countryside, each cluster of 100% Chardonnay is harvested at just the right moment to capture freshness, purity and character.
In the glass the wine presents a pale straw-yellow hue with a glint of green, inviting you in with aromas of crisp green apple, white peach and a whisper of almond blossom. On the palate it’s lively yet composed: juicy orchard fruit, a vibrant lift of citrus, and a clean mineral thread give the wine both drinkability and subtle depth. The lees-ageing in stainless steel for three months followed by a minimum three months in bottle ensures the texture remains smooth but the character stays bright.
This is a Chardonnay that honours its origin without excess. It’s not about heavy oak or flashy over-ripeness—it’s about clarity, freshness and modern elegance from a region more often known for its reds. In Ireland’s cooler evenings or on sunny afternoons, Battista makes for a delightfully versatile companion: whether it’s paired with grilled prawns, a burrata salad, or simply enjoyed on its own with friends, it brings the spirit of Romagna’s vineyard hills to your table.
Why we love it:We love Battista Chardonnay because it achieves a rare balance between ease and sophistication: there’s the bright, inviting fruit that makes you pour a second glass, and yet there’s a subtle mineral backbone and texture that keeps you engaged. It’s an elegant white that feels right at home on Irish tables—fresh, uplifting and authentically Italian.
