About this product

The Essential Ingredient of a Classic Martini
Some vermouths are made for the aperitivo table; others become indispensable behind the cocktail bar. Martini Extra Dry manages to be both. Introduced on New Year's Day 1900 after a decade of experimentation, it was developed by the sons of Luigi Rossi and quickly established itself as one of the defining dry vermouths of the twentieth century.

Crafted from carefully selected Italian wines and a complex blend of botanicals, Extra Dry has a much lighter and drier personality than its Bianco and Rosso counterparts. Its distinctive character comes from the delicate interplay of citrus, raspberry and aromatic herbs, with Florentine orris root adding a subtle floral quality. The result is pale gold in colour, fresh and fragrant on the nose, with a crisp, clean finish.

Of course, its greatest claim to fame is its role in the Dry Martini. Few ingredients are so closely associated with a classic cocktail, and Martini Extra Dry remains a trusted choice for bartenders and home enthusiasts alike. Whether stirred with gin, paired with vodka or enjoyed simply with tonic, it brings a refined Italian touch to drinks enjoyed around the world, including here in Ireland.

Why we love it:
Elegant without being complicated, Martini Extra Dry is all about freshness, subtle botanicals and a beautifully crisp finish. Its delicate citrus and floral notes make it a refreshing aperitivo, but its real strength lies in its versatility behind the bar. An essential bottle for anyone who appreciates a well-made Martini.

Country of origin

Italy

Colour
Pale straw gold.

Nose
Delicate aromas of lemon, raspberry and fresh herbs, with subtle floral notes from orris root.

Palate
Light and dry, with crisp citrus, gentle fruit and aromatic botanical flavours, finishing clean, fresh and pleasantly lingering.

Martini Extra Dry is naturally suited to classic cocktails, particularly the Gin Martini and Vodka Martini, where its delicate botanical character complements rather than overwhelms the base spirit. For a simpler aperitivo, serve chilled over ice with premium tonic water and a twist of lemon. It also pairs beautifully with seafood, particularly oysters, anchovies and marinated fish, where its crispness cuts through richer flavours.

Easy Home Cocktail – Classic Dry Martini

  • 60ml gin
  • 10ml Martini Extra Dry
  • 1 dash orange bitters (optional)
  • Lemon twist or green olive

Add the gin, vermouth and optional bitters to a mixing glass filled with ice. Stir until thoroughly chilled, then strain into a chilled Martini glass. Finish with a lemon twist for a bright citrus aroma, or a green olive for a more savoury finish. Simple, precise and timeless, this is the cocktail that helped make Martini Extra Dry an icon.

The Martini story began in 1863 in Pessione, near Turin, when Alessandro Martini, Luigi Rossi and Teofilo Sola joined forces to establish Martini & Rossi. Luigi Rossi's expertise in herbs and botanical blending helped lay the foundations for the brand's distinctive vermouths, which would become synonymous with Italian aperitivo culture. Extra Dry arrived in 1900, expanding the range with a lighter, drier style perfectly suited to the changing tastes of the era. Today, Martini remains one of Italy's most recognised drinks brands, with its heritage firmly rooted in Piedmont.
