The diamond of the Languedoc. Pale, dry, fruity and made for sunshine.
Rosé may be strongly associated with Provence, but the Languedoc has all the ingredients to make a seriously appealing version of its own. Le Grand Noir’s Rosé, known as Le Diamant, takes a different route: pale and elegant in appearance, but with plenty of vibrant red-fruit character underneath. It is fresh, dry and incredibly easy to enjoy, without trying too hard to imitate its more famous southern neighbour.
The blend is built around Grenache, the grape that has become synonymous with Mediterranean rosé, with a smaller portion of Syrah bringing a little extra depth and a subtle peppery edge. The grapes come from clay and limestone terraces in the Languedoc, where Mediterranean sunshine gives the fruit plenty of flavour while the winery’s night harvesting helps preserve freshness. The wine sees no oak, keeping the focus firmly on the fruit.
In the glass, it is all about juicy raspberry, strawberry and redcurrant, with a little pepper adding personality. Despite the generous fruit, it is genuinely dry, with very little residual sugar and a refreshing acidity that keeps the finish crisp. For rosé drinkers in Ireland, this is a particularly versatile bottle — just as happy alongside lunch as it is poured chilled on a warm afternoon.
Why we love it:
A rosé that manages to combine generosity and freshness without becoming sweet or overly delicate. The red-fruit character is beautifully juicy, while the dry finish and subtle peppery note give it enough personality to work with food as well as on its own.
France
Pays d'Oc IGP
- Grenache
- Syrah
Colour
Pale pink with delicate salmon reflections.
Nose
Fresh and expressive, with raspberry, strawberry and redcurrant aromas alongside a subtle peppery note.
Palate
Bright and refreshing, with juicy red berries and a gentle brambly character balanced by lively acidity. The wine is distinctly dry, with the fruit giving an impression of sweetness without actual sweetness, leading to a crisp, clean finish.
This is the sort of rosé that earns its place at the table. Its combination of fresh red fruit, dry character and gentle peppery notes makes it particularly good with lighter Mediterranean dishes, seafood and foods with a little spice.

Le Grand Noir was created in the ancient wine country of Southern France as a modern interpretation of the region's wines, combining traditional French varieties with a more accessible and contemporary style. The project was developed by winemaker Hugh Ryman, wine writer Robert Joseph and designer Kevin Shaw, working alongside family grape-growers in the Languedoc. Their approach is based on making the most of the region's varied soils, altitudes and Mediterranean microclimates, producing wines that are expressive, food-friendly and full of character without being dominated by oak or excessive alcohol. Their Rosé reflects that philosophy particularly well: a distinctly Languedoc wine that takes inspiration from the great southern French rosés while maintaining its own personality.
