About this product

Classic Loire Sauvignon with a little more elegance.
Few French whites have quite the instant recognition of Sancerre. Perched on the eastern side of the Loire Valley, its vineyards sit across limestone and clay-limestone soils, creating the perfect setting for Sauvignon Blanc to develop its signature combination of citrus freshness, fine minerality and aromatic lift.

LaCheteau's Sancerre captures that classic Loire character in a clean, precise and wonderfully refreshing style. White flowers, citrus and fresh fruit lead on the nose, while the palate brings lively acidity and a subtle mineral edge that gives the wine its unmistakable sense of place. There is plenty of freshness here, but also enough texture and fruit to make it more than simply a crisp aperitif wine.

It is a particularly versatile expression of Sauvignon Blanc: bright enough for a sunny afternoon, refined enough for a dinner party and naturally suited to seafood and goat's cheese. For wine drinkers in Ireland, it offers a more mineral and elegant alternative to the more tropical styles of Sauvignon Blanc from New Zealand or Australia.

Why we love it:
LaCheteau's Sancerre shows why this corner of the Loire has become synonymous with Sauvignon Blanc. Fresh citrus and delicate white-flower aromas meet a beautifully crisp palate, while the mineral character adds an extra layer of sophistication without making the wine feel austere. It is elegant but approachable, and just as convincing with food as it is served on its own.

Sancerre AOC

  • Sauvignon Blanc

Colour
Pale gold with bright, silvery-green highlights.

Nose
Elegant aromas of white flowers, lemon and grapefruit, with fresh green fruit and subtle exotic-fruit notes.

Palate
Crisp and lively, with citrus and fresh fruit balanced by bright acidity and a fine mineral character. The finish is clean, refreshing and persistent, with a subtle saline edge.

Sancerre's combination of fresh acidity, citrus fruit and mineral character makes it an exceptionally versatile food wine, particularly with lighter dishes where freshness and precision can really shine.

  • Fresh oysters and shellfish
  • Prawns, crab and lobster
  • Grilled or baked white fish
  • Smoked salmon
  • Goat's cheese
  • Seafood salads and ceviche
  • Sushi and sashimi
  • Green salads with citrus dressing
  • Light chicken dishes

For an Irish table, serve it alongside fresh seafood, smoked salmon or the classic Loire pairing of goat's cheese; chill to around 8–10°C, with no need to decant, although allowing the wine a few minutes in the glass will help its floral and mineral notes unfold.
