Clay-born. Textured. A timeless expression of Sangiovese crafted in terracotta.
From the organic vineyards of La Lupinella in the Montalbano Hills near Vinci, this Sangiovese is a tribute to both tradition and terroir. Fermented and aged entirely in Impruneta terracotta amphorae—the same clay that the Bitossi family has crafted into ceramics for centuries—it harnesses the slow, meditative power of ancient winemaking techniques. The result is an authentically Tuscan red with exceptional clarity, earth-driven minerality, and silky structure
Why we love it:
Here’s a Sangiovese that reveals its soil, climate, and clay vessel in every sip. The amphora lends it texture, warmth, and earthiness—all while preserving the garrigue and floral lift of this noble grape. Elegant, expressive, and utterly Tuscan.

Clear ruby with youthful vibrancy and translucence.

18 months in wood, followed by 3 months in amphorae and some refining in bottle.

Run by Marco Bitossi and winemaker Manuela Marzi, La Lupinella is a celebration of clay and vine. Their 12 ha organically farmed vineyards yield wines that are unapologetically Tuscan—fermented in amphora, concrete, and large oak, avoiding excessive sulphur or intervention. The amphora-aged Sangiovese embraces this ethos: rooted, slow-expressive, and startlingly clear: "a truly high-level amphora fermentation" .
