About this product

Earth-born. Pure Sangiovese. A Chianti of remarkable clarity and character.
La Lupinella Rossa is not your average Chianti. Grown organically on the sun-kissed, clay-rich hillsides of Montespertoli—just southwest of Florence—this expressive red is a tribute to Tuscan tradition, artisan craftsmanship, and the untamed beauty of Sangiovese in its purest form.

Made exclusively from estate-grown Sangiovese, “Rossa” embodies the La Lupinella ethos: minimal intervention, deep respect for terroir, and a focus on texture and energy. The wine is fermented with native yeasts in concrete tanks, then matured across a careful balance of large oak casks, 600L tonneaux, and cement for nearly a year. This technique retains Sangiovese’s vivid red fruit and floral profile while adding subtle depth and silkiness through ageing. The result is a wine with lifted aromatics, fine tannins, and a mineral-driven finish—a Chianti that is both elegant and grounded.

This is a wine that doesn’t rely on power or oak, but instead speaks in fine detail: wild cherry and violet, iron-rich earth, and a whisper of Tuscan herbs. It’s beautifully drinkable today, but with a structure that will reward a few years of patience in the cellar.

Why we love it:
La Lupinella Rossa is a rare Chianti that combines depth and drinkability. It’s a wine of quiet sophistication—vibrant, clean, and terroir-transparent, with a natural rhythm that speaks of time, tradition, and place. For those who appreciate purity over flash, this is a bottle to savour.

Chianti Superiore DOCG

  • Sangiovese
  • Colorino

Colour
Clear, radiant ruby with garnet reflections at the rim.

Nose
A bouquet of violets, wild berries, sour cherry, and dried herbs, underscored by a touch of spice and clay.

Palate
Fresh and linear, with medium body and sleek tannins. Bright red fruit, blood orange, and savoury minerality dominate, finishing with balanced acidity and a clean, slightly saline lift. It’s a wine that lingers gently—elegant and whispering rather than shouting.

This is a versatile Chianti, ideal for both rustic and refined Italian dishes. Try it with:

  • Porcini mushroom risotto
  • Bistecca alla Fiorentina (Florentine steak)
  • Roasted root vegetables with rosemary
  • Tuscan white bean stew with cavolo nero
  • Hard cheeses like aged pecorino or Parmigiano Reggiano

9 months in wood, followed by 3 months in concrete tank and further year of refining in bottle.

La Lupinella is a small, organically certified estate just outside Vinci, Tuscany, with deep family roots in both ceramics and viticulture. Named after the wild lupine flower that blooms among the vines, the winery is run by Marco Bitossi and winemaker Manuela Marzi, whose thoughtful approach to farming and cellar work reflects the land’s natural rhythms. Wines are fermented in terracotta amphorae, concrete, and large oak, with a clear focus on balance, energy, and site expression. Each bottle is a window into the clay, sun, and soul of the Montalbano Hills.
