About this product

The bold, modern side of Ribera del Duero.
Ribera del Duero is one of Spain's great red wine regions, where high-altitude vineyards and the intense continental climate create Tempranillo with remarkable depth, concentration and freshness. Fincas Valdemacuco Roble captures that character beautifully, combining ripe black fruit and generous texture with the subtle influence of oak. Made from 100% Tempranillo grown in selected vineyards around Nava de Roa in Burgos, it is a wine that feels distinctly Spanish while remaining remarkably approachable.

After fermentation, the wine spends five months in a combination of French and American oak barrels. This relatively short period of ageing is enough to bring out gentle spice, toast and vanilla-like richness without overwhelming the character of the fruit. The result is a Ribera del Duero that is full-bodied and expressive, but still fresh and energetic rather than heavy.

For wine lovers in Ireland, Fincas Valdemacuco Roble is an excellent introduction to the more generous side of Spanish red wine. It has the richness to stand up to grilled meats and roasts, yet its freshness and polished tannins make it equally enjoyable with tapas, charcuterie or a relaxed evening glass.

Why we love it:
This is Ribera del Duero with plenty of personality without becoming overly serious. The combination of juicy black fruit, aromatic herbs and gentle oak gives it depth, while the polished tannins and fresh finish keep everything balanced. It is rich, smooth and satisfying, making it an especially good choice when you're looking for a Spanish red with real character and excellent everyday versatility.

Ribera del Duero DO

  • Tempranillo

Colour
Deep cherry red with vivid purple hues.

Nose
Intense aromas of ripe black fruits, plum and cassis are joined by wild herbs, bay leaf and subtle sweet spice. Gentle toasted notes from the oak add another layer of warmth and complexity.

Palate
Rich and rounded on the palate, with concentrated blackberry, plum and dark berry flavours supported by smooth tannins. Hints of spice, liquorice and soft toast emerge through the mid-palate, leading to a fresh, savoury and pleasantly long finish.

A naturally versatile Spanish red with enough structure for substantial dishes and enough freshness to work beautifully with tapas and sharing plates. Pair it with:

  • Grilled or roasted beef
  • Roast lamb with rosemary and garlic
  • Iberian pork and Spanish charcuterie
  • Chorizo and other cured meats
  • Grilled vegetables and smoky tapas
  • Manchego and other mature cheeses
  • Hearty pasta dishes and rich tomato sauces

Perfect for relaxed dining across Ireland, particularly alongside grilled meats, Sunday roasts and generous sharing platters. Serve at 16–18°C and allow it to breathe for 20–30 minutes before serving to let the dark fruit, spice and oak aromas fully open.

Fincas Valdemacuco is the Ribera del Duero project of the Valdemar family, bringing generations of winemaking experience from Rioja to a different Spanish terroir. The family's winemaking story dates back to 1889 in Oyón, with Bodegas Valdemar now led by the fifth generation. Their approach combines deep respect for traditional Spanish viticulture with a pioneering attitude towards winemaking, and the Fincas Valdemacuco wines are their expression of the character of Ribera del Duero.
