About this product

Taut. Elegant. Precision from a singular site.
Domäne Wachau Riesling “Federspiel Ried Trenning” is a beautifully defined single-vineyard expression, where the clarity of Riesling meets the unmistakable imprint of place. Crafted by Domäne Wachau, this wine highlights the finesse and linearity that make Wachau Riesling so compelling — focused, mineral, and quietly powerful.

“Ried Trenning” is a distinctive vineyard site within Wachau, set on steep, terraced slopes that benefit from excellent sun exposure and cooling air currents flowing through the valley. The soils here — dominated by ancient gneiss with pockets of loess — play a crucial role in shaping the wine’s character. They encourage deep rooting and low yields, producing fruit with concentration, tension, and a pronounced mineral signature. Compared to broader “Terrassen” wines, this single-vineyard bottling offers more detail, more structure, and a clearer expression of terroir.

As a Federspiel, it sits in that ideal middle ground — offering depth and structure without sacrificing freshness. It’s a style that captures Riesling’s purity while remaining incredibly drinkable and versatile.

In the glass, it shows a pale straw colour with brilliant green reflections. The aromatics are precise and lifted: lime, green apple, white peach, and citrus blossom, underlined by a distinct stony minerality. There’s a sense of restraint and focus — nothing exaggerated, everything finely tuned.

On the palate, the wine is light to medium-bodied and beautifully linear. Bright citrus and stone fruit are carried by crisp acidity and a firm mineral backbone, giving the wine energy and direction. The texture is clean and taut, with a refreshing drive that leads into a long, dry finish. A subtle saline note lingers, reinforcing its sense of place and purity.

For wine lovers in Ireland, this is Riesling in a more refined, terroir-driven style — less about overt fruit, more about precision and structure. It’s an excellent choice for those looking to explore single-vineyard wines, offering both immediate freshness and the potential to develop further complexity over time.

Why we love it:
Precise and mineral-driven. Bright citrus, crisp acidity, and single-vineyard clarity make this a refined and expressive Riesling.
