About this product

Focused. Layered. Single-vineyard precision.
Domäne Wachau Grüner Veltliner “Federspiel Ried Kreuzberg” takes everything you expect from Wachau and narrows it into a single, distinctive site. Crafted by Domäne Wachau, this is Grüner Veltliner with added depth and identity — a wine that moves beyond regional character into the nuances of place.

“Ried Kreuzberg” refers to a specific vineyard site, perched on steep, terraced slopes overlooking the Danube. Like many of Wachau’s best vineyards, it is shaped by ancient stone terraces and poor, rocky soils of gneiss and granite. These conditions force the vines to struggle, producing low yields of intensely flavoured fruit. The exposure of the site allows for optimal ripening, while cool air flowing through the valley preserves acidity and freshness. The result is a wine that combines ripeness with precision — structured, mineral, and beautifully defined.

As a Federspiel, this wine sits in the middle tier of Wachau’s classification system, offering a perfect balance between freshness and concentration. Compared to the broader “Terrassen” bottlings, a single-vineyard wine like Kreuzberg shows more detail, more structure, and a clearer expression of terroir.

In the glass, it displays a pale gold colour with green reflections. The aromatics are refined and layered: ripe apple, pear, and citrus unfold alongside white pepper, fresh herbs, and a pronounced mineral edge. There’s a quiet intensity here — not loud, but deeply expressive.

On the palate, it is medium-bodied and tightly structured. Orchard fruit and citrus are supported by vibrant acidity and a firm mineral backbone, giving the wine both energy and length. The signature Grüner spice — that subtle white pepper note — is more pronounced here, adding complexity and depth. The finish is long, dry, and precise, with a savoury, stony character that lingers.

For wine lovers in Ireland, this is where Grüner Veltliner becomes truly compelling — a wine that offers both immediate enjoyment and a deeper sense of place. It’s an excellent choice for those looking to explore single-vineyard wines, delivering precision, structure, and elegance in equal measure.

Why we love it:
Single-vineyard Grüner with real character. More depth and structure than the classic Federspiel, with mineral precision and a distinctive peppery edge.
