About this product

California sunshine, Pinot Noir finesse.
Pinot Noir has a reputation for being one of wine's more delicate and demanding grapes, but California has found a way to give it a little more sunshine and generosity without losing its charm. Decoy's regular California Pinot Noir is built around that balance: ripe, expressive fruit, silky texture and enough freshness to keep everything moving.

The grapes come from a selection of carefully chosen California vineyards, with Decoy drawing on both estate and grower fruit across the state. That broader sourcing is part of what makes this wine so approachable — rather than trying to express one narrowly defined vineyard, it captures the generous, polished style that has made Californian Pinot Noir so popular around the world.

For wine drinkers in Ireland, this is a particularly easy bottle with which to explore the American side of Pinot Noir. It has the familiar red-fruit perfume and supple structure of the grape, but with a distinctly Californian richness: dark raspberry, cherry and boysenberry wrapped in smooth tannins and subtle oak.

Why we love it:
A polished, generous Pinot Noir that delivers plenty of fruit without becoming heavy or clumsy. The combination of juicy berry character, silky tannins and gentle oak makes it an easy bottle to enjoy, while still showing the finesse that makes Pinot Noir so compelling.

Country of origin

USA

California

  • Pinot Noir

Colour
Bright ruby red with a deep, youthful hue.

Nose
Dark raspberry and ripe cherry lead the nose, followed by boysenberry, subtle spice and gentle oak.

Palate
Juicy dark berry and cherry flavours fill the palate, supported by supple tannins and a smooth, layered texture. Refined oak adds depth without taking over, while a rounded, graceful finish keeps the wine feeling fresh and balanced.

The beauty of a generous California Pinot Noir is its versatility. The silky tannins make it comfortable with poultry and pork, while its bright berry character works particularly well with dishes that bring a little sweetness, spice or earthy depth to the table.

  • Roast chicken with herbs and garlic
  • Duck with cherry or plum sauce
  • Roast pork with apple
  • Grilled or pan-seared salmon
  • Mushroom risotto
  • Wild mushroom pasta
  • Turkey with cranberry sauce
  • Charcuterie and soft cheeses

For the best expression in Ireland, serve lightly chilled at around 14–16°C. There is no need to decant; simply give it 15–20 minutes in the glass to let the fruit and gentle oak character open up.

Decoy was established by legendary California winemakers Dan and Margaret Duckhorn and has become one of the best-known labels within the Duckhorn Portfolio. Originally created as a second label of Duckhorn Vineyards, Decoy has grown into a substantial range of its own, built around expressive California wines designed to combine quality with approachability. Today, the wines are made by Dana Epperson, whose approach focuses on balance, precision and careful sourcing, with Decoy drawing fruit from both estate vineyards and respected growers across California.
