About this product

Elegant. Energetic. The sophisticated second wine of a legendary estate.
Alter Ego de Palmer is more than a “second wine” — it is a true counterpart to the legendary Château Palmer. Since its first vintage in 1998, Alter Ego has developed its own identity, crafted with fruit from the same exceptional Margaux vineyards but vinified with a style that favours immediate approachability while retaining all the finesse and depth that make Palmer a benchmark of Bordeaux.

The 2017 vintage shows remarkable elegance. A blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Petit Verdot, it offers layers of dark fruit — blackcurrant, plum, and blackberry — framed by silky tannins and lifted by delicate floral notes. The palate is refined yet generous, with hints of graphite, spice, and cocoa leading to a long, graceful finish. While more accessible than the grand vin in its youth, Alter Ego 2017 has the structure to age beautifully for over a decade.

In Ireland, where fine Bordeaux is cherished for both collecting and celebrating life’s milestones, Alter Ego de Palmer 2017 represents the sweet spot: pedigree, complexity, and elegance in every glass. It’s a wine that tells the story of Margaux’s great terroir, while offering a more immediate pleasure to those who cannot wait.

Why we love it:
An elegant Margaux with pedigree, poise, and approachability. Alter Ego 2017 delivers Palmer’s refinement with a softer, more generous style — perfect for fine dining or special celebrations in Ireland.

A revered Third Growth in Margaux, Château Palmer spans 66 ha of gravel-rich vineyards. Their philosophy balances organic practices with meticulous craftsmanship. Alter Ego, launched in 1998, showcases these same exceptional sites with a softer, more accessible profile—often crafted with lower alcohol and earlier-drinking appeal.
