About this product

Bittersweet. Spiced. Endlessly refined.
Born in the foothills of Piedmont, where the scent of vineyards mingles with mountain air, Bordiga Vino Chinato bridges two worlds — the elegance of Barolo-country wine and the mystery of ancient herbal elixirs. Crafted from Nebbiolo grapes, the same noble variety that gives life to Barolo, this fortified wine is infused with a secret blend of alpine herbs, roots, and spices gathered from the surrounding valleys.

Each bottle tells a story of tradition and craftsmanship. The winemakers at Bordiga Distillery, founded in 1888, still follow the original recipe — a slow, patient maceration where wine meets bitter Cinchona bark (Chinato means “quinine-infused”). The process transforms a fine red wine into something altogether magical: velvety, spiced, and aromatic, with a gentle bitterness that lingers like an evening echo across the hills.

In the glass, Bordiga Vino Chinato opens with notes of red cherries, dried herbs, orange peel, and warm spices. The palate is complex and enveloping — sweet at first, then balanced by earthy bitterness and a whisper of alpine freshness. A beautiful expression of Italy’s north, now shared with discerning drinkers in Ireland who appreciate authenticity, depth, and a touch of mystery.

Why we love it:
Bordiga Vino Chinato is bold yet balanced, traditional yet timeless. It's a drink that tells a story — of Piedmontese vineyards, ancient herbal remedies, and the warmth of slow evenings shared. A must-have for lovers of complex, bitter-sweet aromatics and rich sipping experiences.

Since 1888, Bordiga has stood as a symbol of authentic alpine craftsmanship. From its historic distillery in Cuneo, Piedmont, it continues to produce traditional herbal liqueurs, vermouths, and wine infusions using wild, hand-foraged botanicals and time-honoured methods. Their Vino Chinato is a fine example of this legacy — both a nod to the past and a joy for the modern palate.
