About this product

Rich, amber and unmistakably Italian.
Birra Moretti Rossa takes the familiar Italian beer tradition in a deeper, more indulgent direction. This is a 7.2% double malt beer, brewed with 100% barley malt and given its distinctive amber-red colour through the use of specially dried and roasted malt. The result is a beer with a rich caramelised malt character, roasted aromas and considerably more depth than the classic Moretti lager.

Pour it into a glass and the difference is immediately apparent. Deep amber hues lead into aromas of toasted malt, caramel and lightly roasted grain, while an aromatic hop variety brings a delicate fragrance and a pleasant bitterness to balance the richer malt profile. It is warming and full-flavoured without becoming overly sweet, making it an interesting choice when a standard lager simply feels a little too light.

There is a distinctly Italian sense of occasion to Rossa, too. It works beautifully with the kind of generous, rustic food that makes an evening around the table last longer — pizza, grilled meats, rich pasta dishes and mature cheeses. For beer drinkers in Ireland looking for something with more malt character and a stronger finish, Birra Moretti Rossa offers a very different side of one of Italy’s best-known beer names.

Why we love it:
Rossa brings a darker, more luxurious side to the Birra Moretti family, with caramelised malt and gentle roasted character giving it plenty of personality. The 7.2% strength is noticeable but well integrated, while the bitterness keeps the finish from becoming too sweet.

Country of origin

Italy

Double Malt

Appearance
Deep amber to reddish-brown with a rich, clear appearance and a creamy off-white head.

Aroma
Pronounced roasted malt with notes of caramel, toasted grain and a delicate aromatic hop fragrance.

Palate
Rich and full-bodied, with caramelised malt, toasted grain and gentle roasted flavours leading into a pleasantly bitter finish. The higher alcohol adds warmth and depth, while the hops provide enough freshness to keep the beer balanced.

With its richer malt character and higher strength, Rossa is made for food with plenty of flavour. The caramelised malt works particularly well alongside roasted, grilled and savoury dishes, while the bitterness helps cut through richer sauces and cheeses.

Try it with:

  • Pizza with spicy salami, mushrooms or roasted vegetables
  • Lasagne and rich tomato-based pasta
  • Grilled sausages and roasted meats
  • Burgers with caramelised onions
  • Parmigiano Reggiano and mature hard cheeses
  • Charcuterie and Italian antipasti
  • Chocolate or caramel desserts

This is also a beer worth slowing down with rather than simply drinking ice-cold from the fridge. Serve at around 10–12°C to allow the roasted malt, caramelised character and delicate hop aroma to fully develop.

Birra Moretti began in Udine in 1859 when Luigi Moretti founded his “Beer and Ice Factory”, and the brand has retained a strong connection with traditional Italian brewing ever since. Today, Birra Moretti is known internationally for its Italian identity and its emphasis on good beer, good food and simple moments shared with friends and family; Rossa sits on the richer side of that tradition, bringing roasted malt and caramelised depth to the familiar Moretti name.
