About this product

The Essential Cocktail Ingredient.
Angostura Aromatic Bitters is one of the most iconic and indispensable ingredients in the world of cocktails. First created in 1824, this highly concentrated aromatic bitters has become a cornerstone behind bars globally, adding depth, balance, and complexity to both classic and modern drinks.

Crafted from a closely guarded blend of herbs, spices, and botanicals, Angostura is not meant to be consumed on its own, but rather used in small dashes to transform a drink. Just a few drops can elevate a cocktail, enhancing flavours, tying ingredients together, and adding a distinctive aromatic lift that is instantly recognisable.

From the Old Fashioned to the Manhattan, Angostura Aromatic Bitters is the quiet hero of cocktail culture. For Irish home bartenders and professionals alike, it’s an absolute must-have — a small bottle that delivers outsized impact in every serve.

Why we love it:
Angostura Bitters is the definition of essential. A few dashes can completely transform a drink, adding depth, spice, and balance. It’s versatile, timeless, and irreplaceable — no serious home bar is complete without it.

Country of origin

Trinidad and Tobago

Colour
Deep reddish-brown.

Nose
Highly aromatic with notes of clove, cinnamon, gentian root, and warm spice.

Palate
Intensely concentrated and complex, with layers of bitter herbs, spices, and subtle sweetness. The finish is long, dry, and aromatic, leaving a lingering spicy warmth.

Angostura Aromatic Bitters is designed to be used sparingly, typically in dashes, to enhance cocktails and drinks. It’s essential in classics like the Old Fashioned, Manhattan, and Pink Gin, and can also be added to soda water for a refreshing, low-alcohol serve. A few drops can even elevate non-alcoholic drinks, desserts, or coffee with its distinctive spice profile.

Angostura was created by Dr. Johann Siegert in 1824 in Venezuela before production moved to Trinidad & Tobago. The recipe remains a closely guarded secret, known only to a select few. Over nearly two centuries, Angostura Aromatic Bitters has become a global benchmark, trusted by bartenders and mixologists worldwide.
