About this product

Tropical, hazy, effortlessly drinkable. The beer that built Northern Monk.
Northern Monk Faith is one of the defining beers of the modern British craft beer movement. First brewed in Leeds in 2015, Faith began life as a modern pale ale before becoming the flagship beer that would shape Northern Monk's identity. Today, it is recognised for exactly what made it special from the beginning: a beautifully hazy appearance, bright tropical fruit character, and a smooth, rounded palate that makes it remarkably easy to drink.

Faith was born from a fascination with the new wave of American and New England brewing. Northern Monk's founders travelled through New England and Vermont in the early days of the brewery, exploring the hazy, fruit-forward IPAs that were transforming the American craft beer scene. That experience helped inspire the direction of Faith and ultimately influenced Northern Monk's ambition to become one of the UK's leading brewers of hazy, hop-driven beers.

The beer itself is all about freshness and drinkability. Tropical fruit and pineapple lead the aroma, backed by bright citrus and subtle stone-fruit character. A gentle sweetness gives the beer a soft, rounded texture, while restrained bitterness keeps everything balanced rather than aggressive. It is hazy, juicy, aromatic, and expressive without crossing into the heavier territory of a modern IPA.

For craft beer lovers in Ireland, Faith is an excellent introduction to the Northern Monk philosophy. It captures the moment when hazy American-inspired brewing became firmly established in the UK, while remaining approachable enough to appeal well beyond the traditional craft beer audience. This is a beer built around flavour rather than bitterness — vibrant, contemporary, and exceptionally easy to enjoy.

Why we love it:
Faith has earned its reputation the old-fashioned way: by being genuinely good beer. The tropical fruit, pineapple, citrus, and stone-fruit character give it plenty of personality, while its soft mouthfeel and gentle bitterness make it incredibly drinkable. It is the kind of pale ale that works equally well for a dedicated craft beer fan and someone simply looking for a fresher, more flavourful alternative to mainstream lager.

Hazy Pale Ale

Appearance
Dark golden yellow with a moderate natural haze, topped by a soft white head and delicate lacing.

Aroma
Fresh pineapple, tropical fruit, citrus peel, ripe stone fruit, and subtle juicy hop character.

Palate
Smooth and rounded, with lightly sweet tropical fruit flavours leading into pineapple, citrus, and soft stone-fruit notes. Gentle bitterness provides balance without dominating, creating a clean and refreshing finish with lingering tropical fruit character.

Faith's juicy fruit character and gentle bitterness make it incredibly versatile at the table, particularly with dishes that benefit from a little freshness and hop-driven contrast.

Pair it with:

  • Spicy chicken wings or crispy fried chicken
  • Thai curries and aromatic Asian cuisine
  • Pulled pork, barbecue ribs, or grilled meats
  • Tacos with fresh salsa and lime
  • Burgers with mature Cheddar
  • Soft cheeses and lighter charcuterie

It's equally at home as a refreshing beer for a relaxed afternoon, a barbecue, or a craft beer evening with friends. Serve chilled, and if you're pouring from the can, give it a gentle roll beforehand if you want to incorporate the natural haze and maximise the juicy character.

Northern Monk was founded in Leeds in 2013 with a mission to combine the brewing heritage of Northern England with the creativity of the modern craft beer movement. From its breweries at The Old Flax Store and Sydenham Road, the brewery has developed a reputation for expressive, contemporary beers while maintaining a strong connection to its northern roots.

Faith has been at the centre of that story since 2015. Originally described as a Modern Pale Ale, it evolved into the brewery's signature Hazy Pale Ale as the style developed, becoming the flagship beer around which the wider Faith family was built. Northern Monk now describes Faith as its "headline act" and "crown jewel" — a beer that has remained central to the brewery's identity for more than a decade.

For craft beer drinkers in Ireland, Faith is therefore more than simply another hazy pale ale. It is a piece of modern British brewing history — the beer that helped bring the New England-inspired hazy style into the mainstream of UK craft brewing.
