About this product

French Barley, Oak & A Finish from Cognac Country.
Not every great whisky story begins in Scotland or Ireland. Beauchamp Single Malt comes from the Charente region of southwestern France, an area better known internationally for Cognac and its rich winemaking traditions. Produced by Les Bienheureux at the Distillerie de Bercloux, this distinctly French whisky brings together locally sourced barley, traditional distillation and a maturation process with a regional twist.

The spirit is made from malted barley and aged for more than three years in French oak barrels before receiving a further finish in casks that previously held Pineau des Charentes, a regional speciality made from grape must and Cognac eau-de-vie. This finishing stage adds a subtle wine-derived fruitiness and extra roundness, complementing the toasted cereal character of the malt and the influence of the oak.

Bottled at a confident 46% ABV and without chill filtration, Beauchamp retains a generous, full-bodied character. Expect toasted grains, dried grapes and raisins, with a powerful palate and a lingering finish of fresh liquorice and sandalwood. It offers an intriguing alternative for whisky drinkers in Ireland who enjoy exploring beyond the familiar regions and discovering how local ingredients and cask choices can shape a spirit.

Why we love it:
Beauchamp stands out because it has a genuine sense of place. The toasted malt and dried-fruit character provide a satisfying whisky foundation, while the Pineau des Charentes finish brings a distinctive French accent. It's a rewarding bottle for anyone curious about the growing world of French whisky and looking for something a little different to pour and discuss.

Country of origin

France

Charente

Colour
Warm amber with golden highlights.

Nose
Toasted cereals and malt, with dried grapes, raisins and a gentle toasted-wood character.

Palate
Powerful and generous, with rich malt, dried fruit and a rounded wine-cask influence. The higher bottling strength gives it body, while the oak contributes structure and a gentle tannic edge.

Give it a little time in the glass and start neat. At 46% ABV, Beauchamp has enough intensity to benefit from a few minutes of air, allowing the toasted malt and dried-fruit notes to emerge.

Try a few drops of water if you'd like to soften the oak and bring the fruit forward. Its wine-cask influence also makes it an interesting pairing with mature hard cheeses, roasted nuts or dark chocolate.

Serve neat, with a few drops of water, or over a single large ice cube.

Easy Home Cocktail – French Whisky Old Fashioned

  • 50ml Beauchamp Single Malt
  • 5ml sugar syrup
  • 2 dashes aromatic bitters
  • Orange peel
  • Ice

Add the whisky, sugar syrup and bitters to a mixing glass filled with ice. Stir until chilled, then strain over a large ice cube in a rocks glass. Express the oils from an orange peel over the drink and use it as the garnish. Keep the sweetness restrained so the whisky's malt and cask character remain at the centre.

Beauchamp is part of the portfolio of Les Bienheureux, the French spirits company also behind Bellevoye whisky. Its whisky is produced at Distillerie de Bercloux, near the border of Charente and Charente-Maritime, in a region closely associated with Cognac and Pineau des Charentes. The distillery combines local barley and traditional distillation with French oak maturation and regional cask finishing, giving Beauchamp a character that reflects its origins rather than imitating a conventional Scotch style.
