Juicy, generous and effortlessly Portuguese.
Some wines become popular because they are complicated. LAB became popular because it is simply very easy to enjoy. Made in the Lisboa region by Casa Santos Lima, it combines classic Portuguese varieties with a touch of Syrah to create a ripe, generous red that delivers plenty of flavour without asking too much of the drinker.
The blend brings together Castelão, Tinta Roriz, Touriga Nacional and Syrah, giving the wine a broad spectrum of fruit and spice. It is fermented in large stainless-steel tanks before part of the wine spends around four months in oak, adding a little extra texture and warmth without turning the wine into something overly oaky.
For wine drinkers in Ireland, LAB is one of those dependable Portuguese reds that has earned its place through sheer drinkability. Ripe red and dark fruit, juicy plum, fresh tannins, spice and a touch of liquorice make it an excellent everyday bottle — equally at home with a midweek dinner, a barbecue or a few plates of tapas.
Why we love it:
LAB does exactly what a good everyday red should do: it is fruity, smooth, generous and immediately enjoyable. There is enough tannin and spice to give it shape, but the emphasis is firmly on juicy fruit and easy drinking, making it a particularly dependable Portuguese red for the price.
Portugal
Lisboa
- Castelão
- Tinta Roriz
- Syrah
- Touriga Nacional
Colour
Deep ruby red with youthful purple reflections.
Nose
Expressive aromas of ripe red berries and dark fruit, with plum, blackberry and subtle spicy notes.
Palate
Juicy plum and berry fruit dominate the palate, supported by fresh, firm tannins and touches of spice and liquorice. Partial oak ageing adds a gentle layer of warmth and structure, while the finish is pleasantly persistent without becoming heavy.
LAB's generous fruit and approachable tannins make it an extremely flexible dinner wine. It works particularly well with grilled or roasted meats, tomato-based dishes and food with a little spice.
- Beef burgers and steaks
- Barbecued pork or chicken
- Roast chicken
- Sausages and grilled meats
- Spaghetti Bolognese
- Pizza with cured meats
- Portuguese-style tapas

- Asian-inspired grilled meat dishes
For the best expression in Ireland, serve at around 16–18°C. There is no need to decant — simply open, pour and enjoy, although a little time in the glass will allow the fruit and spice to become more expressive.
