About this product

Rich Malt, Golden Colour and a Distinctly Italian Character.
When a classic Italian beer takes a richer, more full-flavoured direction, the result is Peroni Gran Riserva Doppio Malto. Part of Peroni’s premium Gran Riserva range, this Italian Bock brings together a deep golden appearance, a satisfying malt character and a gentle warmth that makes it particularly enjoyable when you want something with a little more substance in your glass.

At the heart of the recipe is 100% Italian bronzed malt, which gives the beer its intense golden colour and distinctive cereal-led character. A carefully managed brewing process, including extended mashing at low temperatures and the use of speciality malts, develops its aromas of grain and toasted malt, complemented by a subtle spiciness. The result is a beer with depth and personality, without allowing its richer flavours to become overpowering.

At 6.6% ABV, Doppio Malto has more strength and presence than a typical everyday lager. Its malt-forward profile brings gentle sweetness, toasted notes and a delicate fruity touch, while a restrained bitterness helps keep the overall taste balanced. The finish is warming and pleasantly malty, inviting you to take your time and appreciate the layers of flavour.

This is an excellent choice for anyone who enjoys the familiar ease of Italian beer but is looking for something fuller and more characterful. It works especially well alongside hearty food, from grilled red meat to slow-cooked pasta sauces, making it a natural companion for a relaxed dinner or an evening spent enjoying good food and good company.

Why we love it:
Peroni Gran Riserva Doppio Malto shows a different, more robust side of Italian brewing. We love its combination of golden colour, toasted malt and gentle spice, with enough strength to give it character but enough balance to keep it approachable. The 100% Italian bronzed malt gives the beer a clear sense of identity, while its rich, rounded profile makes it a particularly satisfying choice at the dinner table. A lovely option when a standard lager simply won't quite do.

Appearance
Intense golden colour, with a clear appearance and a creamy white head.

Aroma
Toasted malt and cereal notes lead the way, accompanied by gentle spice and a subtle hint of fruit.

Full-flavoured and malt-forward, with toasted grain, a touch of caramel-like sweetness and a mild spicy character. Its fuller body is balanced by a restrained bitterness.

With its toasted malt character, gentle spice and fuller body, Doppio Malto is particularly good with dishes that have plenty of flavour. Its malt richness complements savoury, roasted and grilled ingredients, while its balanced finish helps keep each mouthful enjoyable.

  • Grilled or roasted red meat: A natural match for steak, beef ribs and other hearty meat dishes.
  • Game and rich roasts: Enjoy it with venison, game dishes or slow-roasted meats.
  • Pasta with robust sauces: Try it with a traditional ragù, slow-cooked beef sauce or a rich tomato-based pasta.
  • Grilled sausages and barbecue food: Its toasted malt notes work beautifully with chargrilled flavours.
  • Mature cheeses: Pair it with aged hard cheeses for a satisfying combination of savoury and malty flavours.

Serve at 6–8°C to let the malt, cereal and spicy aromas come through without losing the beer's refreshing character.

Founded in Italy in 1846, Birra Peroni has become one of the country's best-known brewing names. While its classic lager is associated with easy-drinking Italian refreshment, the Gran Riserva range explores more distinctive styles and richer flavour profiles.

Doppio Malto is the range's Italian Bock, made with 100% Italian bronzed malt and a brewing process designed to develop its golden colour, toasted cereal aromas and gentle spice. It offers a more substantial alternative to a straightforward lager while retaining the balance and drinkability that make it a versatile beer for food and social occasions.
