About this product

West Cork Whiskey with a Taste of the Atlantic.
Born on Ireland's rugged southern coast, Clonakilty Galley Head Bourbon Cask is an approachable Irish whiskey that brings together the character of West Cork, carefully selected bourbon cask maturation, and the distinctive craftsmanship of the Clonakilty Distillery. Named after the dramatic Galley Head lighthouse overlooking the Atlantic, this whiskey is an inviting introduction to the distillery's range—smooth, characterful, and designed for everyday enjoyment.

Clonakilty's unique coastal location plays an important part in the identity of its whiskeys. Matured in bourbon barrels in the distillery's famous Atlantic Ocean-facing warehouses, the whiskey benefits from a maritime environment while the American oak contributes familiar notes of vanilla, caramel, and gentle spice. The result is a style that remains approachable and easy-drinking while offering enough flavour to make it interesting neat.

Galley Head Bourbon Cask is particularly well suited to those exploring Irish whiskey for the first time. It has the softness and natural sweetness associated with well-made Irish whiskey, with bourbon cask maturation adding layers of creamy vanilla, toasted oak, and ripe fruit. It's equally comfortable poured over ice, enjoyed neat, or used to give classic whiskey cocktails a distinctly Irish character.

For whiskey lovers in Ireland, this is a particularly appealing entry point into the Clonakilty range. It tells a story of place as much as production: West Cork, the Atlantic Ocean, bourbon barrels, and a young Irish distillery building its own identity. Affordable enough for everyday drinking but interesting enough to reward exploration, Galley Head is a bottle that deserves a place in any Irish whiskey collection.

Why we love it:
We love Galley Head Bourbon Cask because it offers an approachable introduction to the Clonakilty style without sacrificing character. The bourbon cask brings plenty of soft vanilla, caramel, and oak alongside the naturally gentle character of Irish whiskey, while the West Cork setting gives the bottle a genuine sense of place. It's easy to drink, versatile, and distinctly Irish.

Country of origin

Ireland

Colour
Bright golden amber.

Nose
Soft vanilla, honey, ripe orchard fruit, toasted oak, and delicate cereal notes.

Galley Head Bourbon Cask is wonderfully versatile. Enjoy it neat or with a splash of water to open up its softer aromas, or serve over a large ice cube for a slower, more relaxed drink. Its vanilla and caramel character also makes it an excellent base for an Irish Whiskey Sour, Old Fashioned, or simple whiskey and ginger.
